Earlier this month, Pier 1 Imports announced the closure of nearly half its stores and t the Marketplace at Augusta location is one of them.

You can see "store closing" and "going out of business sale" signs on the windows of the store.

According to the Associated Press, Pier One hired Robert Riesbeck as the new CEO just in November who is experienced with corporate turnarounds.

In the announcement of the store closures, Riesbeck made this comment:

Although decisions that impact our associates are never easy, reducing the number of our brick-and-mortar locations is a necessary business decision.

The company did not say how many layoffs would happen however, but it has been reported that some will take place at the companies corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas.

The reason for the closure has been reported to be struggles to draw consumers and online competition.

No announcement yet as to when the store will be closing.
