For the first time ‘ever’, Americans are spending more money eating out than they are at grocery stores. The reason, experts think, is making something at home may not end up tasting as good when you pay someone else to do it for you.

Over the past several months restaurants and bars are raking in more money than grocery stores. Millennials are the ones that are willing to spend more money for food away from home than in home, while older people still prefer to eat at home.

Millennials prefer fast food, pizza, coffee shops and deli food while viewing it as a social event too.

According to the Commerce Department, grocery stores may still get the upper hand because retailers like Wal Mart, Target and Costco, who sell food, aren’t classified as grocery stores but as general merchandise stores.
