**UPDATE**

The issue is resolved and the roads are reopen.

Original story follows.

According to a post from the Augusta Police Department Facebook page, parts of State Street in Augusta have been closed due to a gas leak. The section of road that is closed is between Capitol Street and Manley Street.

Sewall Street can be utilized as an alternate route at this time. A portion of Columbia and Union Streets are also closed down as authorities work to identify and solve the problem.

Ever since the LEAP building explosion in Farmington on September, 16th 2019, gas leaks have been taken more seriously than ever before. And while road closures and detours may be slightly inconvenient to our everyday lives, we certainly appreciate our first responders being extra diligent and taking the added time to keep all as safe as possible.

We will keep this story updated as details about this particular gas leak come into us. As the road closures come close to evening commute time, we urge you to seek another route and not add to the traffic backup that is likely to happen in the area.
