According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, a woman from Scarborough, Maine has died following an early Monday morning crash.

The press release explains that just before six on Monday morning, the Maine State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on the northbound side of I-95 near Mile Marker 143 in Pittsfield.

When troopers arrived, they found a 2012 Subaru Impreza that had left the roadway, gone into the median, and ended up lodged in the trees.

The driver, 56-year-old Rae Hartford of Scarborough, was pronounced dead at the scene.  First responders had to remove her from the vehicle.  Investigators say speed and intoxication were likely factors in the crash.

The left lane was shut down for about two hours while crews worked the scene.

The investigation is still ongoing.  Anyone with information is asked to reach out to Trooper Klayton Peckham at 207 973 3700, extension 9.

Pittsfield Rescue and Blanchard’s Towing assisted the Maine State Police at the scene.

Our thoughts are with the deceased's family and friends during this difficult time.
