WalletHub, the finance website, looked at the financial literacy of each state. Maine ended up 14th overall.

The data showed that Mainers were tied for third in states where people live within their means.

Maine ranked second, behind Alaska, in terms of having the lowest percentage of people identifying as 'unbanked'. Unbanked is an adult without a bank account.

Maine also did well because of the state's relative percentage of people taking out loans from non-bank lenders.

Maine didn't do so well when it came to comparing credit cards before applying for one. Maine also ranked 28th in its dropout rate.
