I received a call a few weeks ago asking me to be the host of the 2013 Ray Haskell Ford Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association Golf Classic at the Belgrade Lake Golf Club yesterday. It was all to benefit the Alfond Youth Center youth programs.

Who am I to turn down anything to do with children? In my job, I get to help others and I love doing it!

But I think I received more than I gave yesterday. I got to meet some of my favorite team!

Former players donated their time to help raise funds for the Alfond Youth Center and I was able to introduce each and every one including Pete Ladd, Larry Gowell (we ate dinner together), Bruce Berenyi, Tom Burgmeier, Skip Lockwood, Chico Walker, Mike Torrez and the one and only Luis Tiant! And that's just to name a few! My head is still spinning from all the wonderful men that wanted to help our kids here in Maine.

They all played 18 holes and were riding around in their golf carts. There were prizes for the longest drive, closest to the pin and someone even shot a hole in one on the 5th hole.  All the festivities concluded with a lobster dinner and the reading of the winning and losing teams.

Then they all sang "Sweet Caroline" with me! They all did the 'SO GOOD! SO GOOD! SO GOOD!' and the 'BAH BAH BAH'! What fun it was! I was told to bring my shoes and clubs next year. Wouldn't that be incredible?
