New England based grocery store chain Shaw's has announced its intent to close another of its Maine locations.

According to News Center Maine, the chain will close its Scarborough supermarket.  Currently, the plan is to discontinue pharmacy operations at the Scarborough location on September 21st.  The rest of the store operations will cease around October 8th.

This is the second of the chain's Maine locations to close this year.  In January, the store announced the closure of its Westbrook location.

According to the TV station's article, a spokesperson for the chain said, in an email statement:

Like all retailers, we’re constantly evaluating the performance of our stores. Closing a location is always a tough decision, but we’re focused on continuing to provide the products and services our customers value most in Maine and beyond

According to Wikipedia, Shaw's and Star Market are sister grocery store chains headquartered in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts.  While it is currently headquartered in Massachusetts, it started out as a Maine company.  It was founded by George Shaw in Portland in 1860.  Between the two store brands, they have about 150 stores throughout Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
