With another foot of heavy wet snow in our forecast, lets review some safety tips for shoveling all of this snow.

The Snow & Ice Management Association present these safety tips while your shoveling snow.

1. Stay on top of the snow. Try your best to stay ahead of the storm. If you can try and shovel after every few inches of snow has fallen.

2. Wear breathable layers. Layering is typical cold weather advice. Wear layers of loose clothing so you can peel a layer off if you get hot.

3. Watch Your Feet. You need to pay attention to what's on your feet. Wear quality outdoor winter gear such as waterproof boots with good traction.

4. Take time to stretch. Shoveling snow is quite a workout so you should stretch to warm up your muscles. That will help you avoid injury and fatigue.

5. Push don't lift. Pushing the snow side to side instead of lifting the snow will exert less energy.

6. Drink water. Take frequent breaks and stay hydrated.

7. Don't Play in traffic. Pay attention to your surroundings. When you are near the street, pay attention to the traffic.

8. Call and Text. While shoveling, it's a good idea to have your cell phone on you so you can make an emergency call if need be.

Better yet, have some kid shovel the driveway for you or get a snow blower!

Happy shoveling!
