State Senator Roger Katz of Augusta had sponsored the bill LS 1270, that would allow physician-assisted suicide in Maine but only with conditions that include the patient has to take lethal drugs by his or her own hand after significant counseling from health care professionals.

Maine has moved closer to becoming a state that will permit its residents to carry a concealed handgun without a permit. Thursday, the Maine house approved an amendment that would allow anyone older than 21, who isn't prohibited from owning a firearm, to carry a hidden handgun. Members of the military would be afforded the same right as long as they are older than 18 years old.
