The last few years have been difficult for hospitals and healthcare centers in Maine.

Since the calamity of 2020, we have seen numerous healthcare centers either close, or greatly throttle-back on the services they offer.

In March, we learned that Northern Light Inland Hospital was going to be closing.  About the same time, we also learned that Houlton Regional Hospital would be eliminating birthing services.  Over the summer, we got word that Central Maine Healthcare was planning to layoff a number of staff.

Now, it appears that a walk-in healthcare center in Waterville will be closing permanently at the end of 2025.

According to an article on the WABI website, officials for the healthcare company announced in a press release on Tuesday that this move is part of a larger set of changes that started earlier this summer.

In their press release, they also pointed out that when Northern Light Inland Hospital closed earlier this year, the Waterville walk-in care location stayed open to provide an important bridge for local patients.

Officials say the transition has gone well because the number of patients has steadily declined. They believe that drop is happening as more patients and families are finding and sticking with other providers in the community.

They explained that employees affected by the closure will be given support that includes severance packages, career guidance, and chances to continue working within the system.

As far as we know, no specific closing date has been announced.
