Over the last few years, we have spent a lot of time discussing the ongoing replacement of the Ticonic Bridge connecting Waterville and Winslow.

It is important to remember that the Ticonic Bridge is one of several busy bridges that cross the mighty Kennebec River.

For example, just south of the Ticonic Bridge, the Carter Memorial Bridge also connects Winslow and Waterville.

Early next year, this bridge is going to be a key part in the replacement of the Ticonic Bridge.  In early January, when the Ticonic Bridge is completely closed to traffic, the Carter Memorial Bridge will become one of the needed detours.

Road Work on the Carter Memorial Bridge

If you normally travel across the Carter Memorial Bridge, you are going to want to take note of this week's construction.

According to a post on the Waterville Police Department Facebook page, there will be road work done on the bridge this Thursday and Friday (December 19th and 20th).  The road work will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day.

While work is going on, the bridge will be down to one lane.  There will be flaggers present to direct traffic. The work will likely cause some traffic delays, so please plan accordingly.
