According to her post on the Lewiston Rocks Facebook page, a woman named Lauren Rizzolo spotted something strange in the sky over Lewiston early Friday (November 5th) morning.

Just as the sun was coming up, she spotted something streaking across the sky and managed to get video of it on her phone.

At first look, it does appear to be the contrail of a jet airliner.  However, when you look closer, two things stick out: it appears to be moving really fast AND the contrail doesn't trail off behind the object.  If it were a contrail, shouldn't it create a slowly dissipating line in the sky?

Take a look:

What do you think it was she saw?  She is pretty convinced she saw a meteor.  Let us know your thoughts by sending us a message through our app or on Facebook.

Here Are 17 Things In Maine That Will Bite You

Here in Maine, there are plenty of critters that can take a bite out of you if they do desire.

For those who don't know, Wikipedia explains "contrails" or "vapor trails" as the after effect of engine exhaust at high altitude.  The trails, which are mostly made of water vapor are created when the cool air passes through the heat (and pressure) of the jet engine.

Wikipedia says that a meteor (also called a falling star or a shooting star)  is a space rock as it falls to the ground.  In most cases, depending on what the rock (or object) is made of, it will create a tail as it burns up in the Earth's atmosphere.   Sometimes, these trails are different colors.  Again, this is depending on what the rock is made of.   The remnants of that rock after it has fallen to Earth are called meteorites.
