About Black Violin

\For nearly 20 years now, Black Violin has been doing something a little different. The duo, Kev Marcus and Wil Baptiste, blends classical strings with modern beats and vocals, and they’ve been building more than music. They’ve been building bridges.

Even NPR noticed, saying their sound could help keep classical music alive for the next generation.

They’re busy, too. Black Violin plays about 200 shows a year, and a lot of those are for young, low-income students in urban communities. In the past year alone, they’ve performed for more than 100,000 students, all with one goal in mind: challenge the old ideas of what a “classical musician” is supposed to look and sound like.

“It’s a unique thing that brings people together who aren’t usually in the same room,” Baptiste said. “And right now, that feels pretty important.”
