40 New Affordable Housing Units Being Built In Skowhegan
Skowhegan has begun the building of a 40-unit affordable housing unit, one of four projects that are made possible by the Maine Affordable Housing Tax Credit program.
According to an article by Mainebiz, this is the single largest investment in Maine housing, ever. The tax credit program will spread the investment of $80 million dollars over the next eight years.

Maine House Speaker, Ryan Fecteau said:
“The people of Maine asked us to tackle affordable housing so we’re doing that from many angles, including incentivizing new construction and renovations that will become affordable units like the project here in Skowhegan"
When you look at the numbers and statistics, it's down right scary. The Maine Affordable Housing Coalition indicates that 1 in 5 people who rent in Maine, use over half of the income they earn towards paying rent.
The "Mary Street Apartments" being built in Skowhegan will inject 40 new apartments in a very competitive renting environment.
