Like many of the towns and cities that sit on the banks of the Kennebec River, Waterville is loaded with history.

According to Wikipedia, the area was originally home to the Abenaki people.  Originally, it was part of the town of Winslow.  But, after the residents of Waterville found they were unable to cross the river in order to attend town meetings, they chose to split off to form a new town.

In modern times, the city is home to higher learning institutions like Colby College and Thomas College.  Additionally, the area supports industry like the Huhtamaki factory.
