According to an article on the WABI website, a Maine man is dead after being struck by an Amtrak train in Old Orchard Beach on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Old Orchard Beach Police Department, officers and firefighters were called to the train tracks near 133 Temple Avenue shortly before 2:20 PM after reports that a person had been hit by a train.

When first responders arrived, they found that a 51-year-old Old Orchard Beach man had been struck by a northbound Amtrak train.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials have not released the man’s name as the investigation continues and family members are notified.

There is speculation that alcohol may have been a factor in the man's death.

The incident also caused major disruptions for Amtrak Downeaster service Thursday afternoon and evening.

Amtrak said Downeaster Train 683 stopped in Portland, where passengers were dropped off and transported by charter bus to Freeport and Brunswick.

Downeaster Train 686 was canceled, with passengers given the option of a refund or boarding Train 688.
