If you’ve ordered anything online in the last few years, you already know… it’s basically become second nature.  Click, buy, wait by the door like a golden retriever.

Online shopping was already growing before 2020, but once the pandemic hit, it absolutely took off.  And yeah, that includes loading up carts on Amazon like it’s a competitive sport.

The surge got so big that delivery times started slowing down.  More orders, more pressure, longer waits.

So what did Amazon do?  They started building more distribution centers across the country to keep up.

They have already started work on centers in Northern Maine and Southern Maine.

And now, it looks like Central Maine could be next.

According to the Town of Sidney Facebook page,  Amazon is planning a new distribution facility on about 48 acres of land that stretches between Sidney and Waterville.  The proposed site is a field just off Trafton Road and Junction Road, not far from I-95.

The building itself would be around 159,000 square feet, including parking.  So yeah… not exactly small.

There’s also a public meeting coming up if you want the details straight from the source. It’s happening Tuesday, March 31st at 6 PM in the Waterville City Council Chambers, where town officials say they’ll address questions and talk through the plan.
