Augusta’s Hartford Fire Station is in need of some updates and it’s going to take money. The 96 year old fire station wants to make sure it is operational for years to come.

Augusta Fire Chief Roger Audette outlined plans to shore up the garage flooring at the station and in 2018 the facility will need to be expanded to accommodate larger fire equipment.

Engineers recommended in 2013 cracks in the floor be repair and the city budgeted $60,000 but several weeks ago engineers determined the plan won’t make the floor strong enough to hold fire engines.

The idea is to put a temporary fix on the floor for now and then when they decide about the addition and look ahead to the bigger project, do it all.
