Maine Man Pleads Guilty For Striking & Killing Two Toddlers, Critically Injuring Their Mother
A man from Albion, Maine has pleaded guilty to striking and killing twin toddlers with his vehicle in July of 2025. That crash also critically injured the mother of the twins.
According to an article in the KJ, police say 44-year-old Benjamin Lancaster struck and killed 2½-year-old twin brothers Bradley and Noah Bordeaux on July 11, 2025, in what was described as a hit-and-run crash.
Earlier this week at the Capital Judicial Center, Lancaster was sentenced to 25 years in prison, with all but 15 years suspended, plus four years of probation as part of a plea agreement. In plain terms, he’ll serve 15 years behind bars and then be released on probation. If he violates that probation, he could be sent back to prison for the full 25 years.
The article explains that, initially, Lancaster told police he wasn’t even behind the wheel that day. He also pleaded not guilty to all nine charges against him, including two counts of manslaughter.
That changed in court. Lancaster ultimately pleaded guilty to all nine charges as part of a plea agreement, according to Kennebec and Somerset counties Deputy District Attorney Frank Griffin.
The twins were walking with their mother, 34-year-old Mollie Egold, of Albion, when the crash happened on a Friday afternoon. Her injuries were severe. A family friend told the court both of her hips were broken, along with one leg. She needed at least three surgeries. A large piece of glass was lodged in her back near her spine, and bones in her hand were broken as well. After two months in the hospital and rehab, she was finally able to return home.
Egold’s statement was read in court by a victim advocate. She said she and the boys took those walks almost every day. One moment she was enjoying the afternoon with them. The next, she woke up after blacking out and saw her sons lying in the yard. She tried to get up to reach them but couldn’t stand. She told the court that many days she just sits and cries, and that her 6-year-old son, Connor, deeply misses his baby brothers.
A family friend, Martha Collins, also spoke through tears. She said the twins felt like her own grandsons. Collins told the court she held Noah in her arms after he was taken off life support four days after the crash, rocking him, kissing him, and crying as he passed away.
