Feel Good, Eat Well, By Supporting Local Fishermen
Living on the Mid-Coast, and loving all things "ocean", It should come as no surprise that I LOVE seafood. Clams, Scallops, Haddock, Crabs, and yes especially Lobster! It also goes without saying, such items can be pricey!
Fast forward to when this pandemic hit, it came to my attention that the market for local fishermen had dried up overnight. Brokers weren't buying with all the restaurants forced to close, as they couldn't sell the fresh bounty. Local fisherman united and have been trying to sell direct to local families and people longing for some seafood and not to mention, at a very affordable price.
Over the weekend I reached out to a local lobsterman who I found in a local Facebook group, Maine Fish Direct - help Maine’s fishermen while feeding your family! This group will connect you with local fishermen who travel to towns all over the state fresh from their boats. I grabbed 15lbs of Lobster.
To say I was occupied for a few hours would be and understatement. But the reward was amazing, and I felt great about helping doing something to support someone who needed it. That's a win-win in my book! Anyone up for lobster rolls?
