First Fake Meat, Now Fake Eggs!
So if you though is was strange enough that fast food is fascinated with faux meat. Now it seems more restaurants want to invest in plant-based proteins as an alternative to animal products, which is now focused on the incredible edible egg!
Tim Hortons is testing a menu items using Just Egg, which is a plant-based scrambled egg alternative made from mung bean protein, canola oil, onion puree and turmeric to mimic the look, taste and texture of real eggs.
They feel it's just a natural response to the public demand for plant based protein products. So several of the chains locations are switching out chicken eggs and replacing them with the plant-based Just Egg on their breakfast sandwiches.
So the new question may be, which came first, the chicken, or the soybean?
