As Maine’s lobster industry looks toward the future, one longtime Portland brewery is helping bait the trap for the next generation.

According to an article on the WMTW website, Geary Brewing is partnering with the Maine Lobster Community Alliance to support programs aimed at bringing more young people into the state’s iconic lobster industry.

This summer, part of the money raised from sales of cases of Geary’s Original Pale Ale will benefit the Lobsterman’s Leadership Program, which teaches young Mainers business, leadership, conservation, and fisheries management skills. Chris Payne with the Maine Lobster Community Alliance said the program is designed to give participants a deeper understanding of the lobster industry, from science and sustainability to building relationships with industry partners.

The partnership comes as Geary Brewing celebrates the 40th anniversary of its Original Pale Ale. Nathaniel LaPoint with Geary Brewing said the goal is to help strengthen Maine’s working waterfront and ensure the lobster industry remains successful for future generations.

People who want to contribute directly to the Lobsterman’s Leadership Program can donate by scanning the QR code printed on cases of Geary’s Original Pale Ale.
