Nothing screams summer louder than Skowhegan's own Giffords Ice Cream. If you don't know the story, according to the Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream website, "it all goes back to the 1800s, when Nathaniel Main use to deliver milk and ice cream from his horse-drawn wagon. Years later with a few of his kids, they made their way to Skowhegan and Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream was born."

Fast forward to today, "they sell over a million and a half gallons of ice cream every year and more than one million cones each summer from five family-owned and operated stands in Auburn, Bangor, Waterville, Farmington, and Skowhegan."

UPDATED: several stands are now opening for business.

Oh yea and what about the new flavors? Cinnamon Granola Crunch, Dough Your Job, German Chocolate Cake, Lemon Berry Shortcake, Strawberry Cake Crunch, and Peanut Butter Caramel Cookie Dough. Now I'm wondering if I can get all 6 new flavors on one cone? Yea, maybe I would be better off going with a dish.

Check out the B98.5 Facebook page to see Buzz & Kristi in the morning taste test the new flavors!

If you can't make it to the Skowhegan stand, the 100 unique ice cream flavors, frozen yogurts, sherbets, and sorbets that they make can be found in grocery stores, independent ice cream shops, colleges, universities and restaurants all the way from Maine to the Mid Atlantic, to the Mid-West and as far West as Nevada.
