I have never smoked cigarettes but I have seen first hand many friends that have tried to quit smoking and how difficult it was for them. I am a Diet Mountain Dew addict and I did quit a couple of years ago for about 6 or 7 months and then I started in again and I found myself drinking about a liter a day.

So on Sunday, I decided that I am going to quit drinking soda again and put a simple post on Facebook saying that I am going to give up drinking diet mountain dew. Not because of the caffeine, I plan on drinking my iced coffee and replacing the soda with iced tea and sugar-free kool aid.

I was amazed at how many friends commented on how I should quit my soda habit.

Bob West, Renee Nelson, Dave McDonald, Karen Ouelette Robichaud all strongly suggested to drink lots of water. Jeremy Szady suggested that kool aid is a bad choice as a substitute for soda. Damian Osgood suggested crystal light in water. Kathy Williamson said she missed the bubbles, so she mixes 4 ounces of orange juice and 7 ounces of seltzer water. Josh Gilman gave me encouragement and said that since November 2014 he's only drank water and skim milk. Larry Tilton said that a large iced coffee with cream and splenda is 500 calories. That's how I start everyday!
