In case you you have been trying to keep track of the moving and shaking of Maine's congressional districts as of late, a new deal that offers a compromise has been agreed on by Democrats and Republicans.

According to a report by centralmaine.com, the city of Augusta will move out of the 1st district and be moved to the 2nd district.

Waterville on the other hand will stay in the 1st district based on the rebalancing request due to the 2020 census data.

The unanimous vote this morning (9/24/21) will also set up a new boundary for the 151 districts that make up the Maine House of Representatives.

There were talks of moving Waterville to the 2nd district but out of concern for adding more Democrats to the more conservative 2nd district, this idea was abandoned.

At this time there seems to be across the board agreement on the new allocations. There will still be a special session planned for next week for a vote.

The results will be effective as of June of 2022.
