Lewiston Man Involved In Police Chase Into New Hampshire
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, a Lewiston man was allegedly involved in a high speed pursuit.
On Sunday, April 3rd, 2022, the Maine State Police got several 911 calls from a man who was traveling south on I-95 in the Gray area.
The caller was soon identified as 27 year old Ahmed Duale of Lewiston. Duale had allegedly committed armed robbery in Auburn.
Maine State Police Troopers located Duale's vehicle in Scarborough. While they were waiting for additional units so they could safely stop Duale, he allegedly sped up to reckless speeds. Various methods, including spiked mats, were used to attempt to stop him. They had no success, though.
The pursuit crossed into New Hampshire, where the New Hampshire State Police took over. Maine State Police continued to assist the New Hampshire State Police.
During the incident, Duale allegedly hit a Maine State Police cruiser at low speeds.
Duale was slowed enough because of the crash to allow troopers to stop his vehicle and apprehend him. He was reportedly taken into custody without further incident.
According to the press release, he is being charged with:
Eluding, Aggravated Driving to Endanger, Criminal Speed, Reckless conduct with a dangerous Weapon as well as armed robbery out to the City of Auburn.
Following his arrest, he was taken by the New Hampshire State Police to the Rockingham County Jail.
The Maine State Police and New Hampshire State Police were assisted by the York Police Department and Kittery Police Department.
It is unclear why Duale had started calling 911 in the first place.
