Luke Combs Sends Special Gift to 3rd Grade Class in Maine
Even though I am glad that my school days are behind me, sometimes I feel a little bit jealous of what kids today have in their classrooms. When I was a kid we had books, pencils, paper, and glue. If we were lucky, we'd occasionally get to watch something on PBS. That was about it.
Now, kids have laptops, tablets, and the chance to listen to music while they take 'brain breaks'.
That fact that teachers often play music for their students recently led to one Maine class getting a cool gift from country superstar Luke Combs.
According to Whiskey Riff, a third-grade class at Carmel Elementary has become unlikely super-fans of country star Luke Combs, thanks to their teacher, Molly Dalton.
Dalton says her love for Combs started after her sisters introduced her to his music, and she eventually began playing his songs during writing time to help her students focus. She says the music has become a classroom favorite, helping build a sense of community while keeping students engaged.
That connection recently caught Combs’ attention after Dalton posted a video of her students singing along to his song “Days Like These.”
In response, Combs surprised the class with a record player and a signed vinyl copy of his latest album, The Way I Am, as a thank-you and encouragement to keep working hard.
Dalton says she was stunned when Combs reached out directly on TikTok, and the students were thrilled by the gift.
One student said hearing Combs’ song “Back in the Saddle” “blew his mind,” and Dalton says the class was even sad for summer break because it meant they couldn’t keep listening together.
If you are a teacher, what music do you typically play for your students?
