
Two Arrested in Central Maine Drug Bust
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, two people were arrested in a Central Maine MDEA operation.
The press release explains that the Maine DEA and the Winthrop Police Department have been working together to investigate a drug trafficking ring in the Town of Winthrop.
The press release goes on to say:
For the past month, The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency South Central DTF and the Winthrop Police Department have been conducting a joint investigation into the sale of cocaine and fentanyl from a Winthrop Motel. On June 18, Agents obtained 3 search warrants. One for a motel and storage unit in Winthrop and another for a storage unit in Gardiner.
When they searched the motel, agents reportedly seized 116 grams of Fentanyl and 158 grams of cocaine. They also found an additional 143 grams of cocaine and $6980.00 in suspected drug proceeds when they searched the Winthrop storage unit.
The search of a Gardiner storage unit came up empty.
The estimated street value of the drugs was just shy of $45,000.
Arrested during the bust were 34-year-old Stephen Lee Smith, of Connecticut, and 32-year-old Katelynn Dubois, of Winthrop.
Smith has been charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Drug Trafficking Class A. Dubois has been charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Drug Trafficking class A and 1 count Unlawful Trafficking Schedule W Drugs Class B

Both Dubois and Smith are currently being held at the Kennebec County Jail awaiting their initial appearance in court. Smith's bail has been set at $50,000. For Dubois, bail has been set at $500 cash with $5,000 unsecured.
