Central Maine Man Died in Early Monday Morning Crash
According to an article on the WCSH 6 website, a 22-year-old man from Peru was killed early Monday morning when his vehicle left the road.
The article explains that the Oxford County Sheriff's Department issued a press release explaining that Jared Bernard was killed when his vehicle left Route 108 (also referred to as Turner Street) in Canton. The incident happened just before 5:30 AM on Monday.
The article explains that Bernard was traveling east in a Cadillac sedan when the vehicle went off the roadway. After leaving the road, he reportedly hit a driveway, went airborne, hit a telephone pole, hit another driveway, and hit a tree before his vehicle came to rest on the driver's side.
The article explains that Route 108 was closed for several hours while the crash was investigated and cleanup was done.
The investigation into what caused the crash is ongoing.
Our thoughts go out to Bernard's friends and family.
Maine is on track to have a near-record year for traffic fatalities. As of May 16, there had already been 49 traffic fatalities in Maine in 2024. That's significantly up from 2023, when there were only 29 fatalities by mid-May.
As we enter Maine's busy tourist season, we are going to see an increase in traffic on the roads. In many cases, those people will not be familiar with our roads and traffic patterns. Please use extra caution on Maine's roads this summer, and drive like you know the people in the other vehicles.
