The 2016 Maine Lobster Festival will be held in Rockland for five days from Wednesday, August 3rd to Sunday, August 7th. This is the 69th year for the annual event.

The first Lobster Festival was held in 1947 as a one day festival where you could eat all the lobster you wanted for $1. These days, more than 80,000 people attend the 5 day festival and eat over 26,000 pounds of lobster.

The Festival begins at 12 noon on Wednesday with King Neptune and his court arriving by Coast Guard Boat to Rockland’s Public Landing to officially open the Festival at the Eating Tent. Saturday morning at 10 a.m. is the big parade and Sunday is community day with free admission and lobster crate races.

On Friday, August 5th country stars Diamond Rio will be on stage at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, August 6th at 7:30 Smash Mouth plays.

Tickets are now on sale for two headline shows at the year’s Maine Lobster Festival on the waterfront in Rockland.
