The First Real Storm of Winter Could Dump a Foot of Snow on Parts of Maine
So far, the winter of 2024/2025 has been really mild.
The temperatures have been above average and we really haven't gotten any significant snowfalls. Yes, we had just under 6" a few days before Christmas, but that was it.
You can take a look at snowfall totals from each storm we've gotten in the last few years from the How Much Will It Snow website.
It looks like that may be about to change. Most meteorologists are calling for a weather rollercoaster over the next few days.
At the beginning of last week, we got word that Maine was going to be plunged into a deep freeze during the coming week. Then, toward the end of last week, meteorologists began saying that we would start the coming week with a significant storm.
Sunday Night's Storm
According to an article on the WMTW website, much of Maine will be under a Winter Storm Warning from 4 p.m. on Sunday through 7 a.m. on Monday. Towns under the warning include Augusta, Waterville, Gardiner, Portland, Lewiston, Auburn, and Bangor.
The remainder of the state will be under a Winter Weather Advisory from about 7 p.m. on Sunday through 7 a.m. on Monday
The snow will roll into the state on Sunday afternoon and stick with us through early Monday.
According to the WMTW article, Central Maine could see as much as 6" of snow, the coast could see up to 8" of snow, and Eastern Maine is likely to see as much as a foot of snow.
Additionally, part of Maine could see gusty winds. On the coast, wind gusts could top out at 40 MPH.
Following the snow, brutally cold temperatures will hit the state.
Clearly, take necessary precautions and avoid traveling on roads during dangerous conditions. We'll keep you updated with the latest on the storm.
