Maine Transportation Company Shutters Significant Part of Business
A Maine transportation company, which had a delivery contract with FedEx, is scaling back its operations.
According to an article on the WMTW website, the partial shutdown will lead to the loss of nearly two dozen jobs.
Misty Moon Transport 2, located in Saco, confirmed on Thursday that it is shutting down its local delivery division.
The move affects 22 employees, all of whom were notified earlier this week. Their last day is set for Friday, April 3.
The company had been handling contracted delivery routes for FedEx across parts of southern and western Maine.
Company leadership says efforts are underway to help those impacted land on their feet. The owner told Maine’s Total Coverage they are actively coordinating with other area contractors in hopes of connecting displaced workers with new opportunities.
The owner also acknowledged how personal the decision has been, explaining that the team has worked closely together for years and that delivering this news has been especially tough.
While local deliveries are ending, the company will continue operating its long-distance, or linehaul, services. That portion of the business currently employs seven people.
All of Misty Moon Transport 2’s work is tied to FedEx contracts. In response to questions about potential service disruptions, a FedEx spokesperson said the company routinely reassesses its contractor partnerships and has systems in place to smoothly transition services, adding that customers in southern Maine should not see any change in delivery service.
Hopefully, the employees affected by this change will be able to quickly find new jobs.
