Old Hallowell Days Canceled For 2021 – Hopes For 2022 Return
As many things seem to be returning to more normal with fireworks displays, concerts, and fairs indicating they are ready to move forward in 2021, Old Hallowell Day is not going to be one of them according to centeralmaine.com
A unanimous vote last week to cancel the celebration that has happened in Hallowell since 1968 with the exception of last year as well.
The Hallowell Board of Health and other city officials have determined it is still just too great of a risk to public health to go forward with the celebration this year.
The executive director of Old Hallowell Days,Laura Harper said in the report:
"Nothing was easy about this decision. Last year we all missed celebrating together, catching up with old friends and neighbors, enjoying the live music and having fun, But when it came down to it, no one felt comfortable with risking a possible COVID-19 outbreak while attending the parade, playing cribbage, or watching the fireworks.”
The committee is looking forward to starting the festivities once again next year assuming things are in a better place. If you'd like to mark the date on the calendar, it will be July 15, 2022.
