According to an article on the WABI website, a major road project is now underway in Rockland, and if you travel through the area regularly, you’ll want to plan ahead.

Work officially kicked off Monday and will focus on significant excavation and road reconstruction along Oak and Orient Streets.  As you can probably imagine, it’s not a quick patch-and-go situation.  This is a full-on upgrade.

From now through the end of June, residents and local businesses should expect weekday disruptions.  Crews will be working Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 5 PM.  And they will be making plenty of noise, heavy equipment, and traffic delays.

Access is going to be the biggest headache.  Drivers should expect limited or even no vehicle access to Oak and Orient Streets during active construction.  On-street parking on Oak Street is off the table, and the municipal lot between Oak and Orient will also be closed.

There is some good news.  Officials from Rockland says they’ll make every effort to reopen roads for normal traffic during nights and weekends. Businesses will remain open, with pedestrian access available at all times.

Emergency access will be maintained throughout the project, with city officials, contractors, and public safety teams working closely together.
