Travis Mills a Finalist for Congressional Medal of Honor [UPDATE]

Travis Mills is one of 20 finalists selected for the Congressional Medal of Honor Society's Citizen Honor Award according to Central Maine News.

Travis Mills is one of five quadruple amputee service members to have survived such injuries from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Travis is well known in Central Maine for the Travis Mills Foundation, which offers various "programs for post 9/11 veterans and their families" and provides a "retreat located in the Belgrade Lakes Region" for "veteran families who were injured in active duty or as a result of their service" free of charge. As well as running Winthrop's Lakeside Motel & Cabins.

According to 1st District U.S. Rep Chellie Pingree, "To be selected as a finalist for this national award is a great honor in itself...[Travis] demonstrates a resilience and inner strength we can learn from.”

As stated on the Medal of Honor website, the criteria for the award is as follows: "Any United States civilian who, through a singular act of extraordinary heroism or through a prolonged series of selfless acts, clearly demonstrated a willingness to place his or her own life at risk for others or has dedicated themselves to the service of others. In all cases, the actions being honored must epitomize the concept of "service above self" and must be performed "above and beyond" one's professional or vocational area of responsibility or conduct"

The ceremony is scheduled for Monday, March 25th.
