The United Way has always had a huge positive impact on the communities it serves. Here in Kennebec county there have been two United Way organizations working side by side, the United Way of Mid-Maine based in Waterville, and the United Way of Kennebec Valley based in Augusta.

As of now the two United Ways are consolidating to increase the community impact across Kennebec county. The United Way of Kennebec Valley will expand to include 9 communities that previously fell under the United Way of Mid-Maine according to a press release.

Some of the communities that will now fall under the United Way of Kennebec Valley will be, Albion, Belgrade, Benton, Clinton, Mt. Vernon, Oakland, Rome, Winslow, Waterville, Vassalboro and China.

According to Courtney Yeager, the executive director of United Way of Kennebec Valley says:

“This decision enables United Way to raise additional resources and help more people across Kennebec County. The change also allows United Way to increase operational efficiencies, ultimately resulting in additional dollars available for funding nonprofit programs that improve lives and strengthen our communities.”

United Way of Mid-Maine will now focus solely on Somerset & Western Waldo counties.
