Because of the warmer winter weather, maple season is coming early this year. Maple sap is already running in some parts of the state.

The early season is a bit of surprise for producers and they are in a rush to tap tress and run tubing to take advantage of the prime sugaring weather. With temps in the 40’s the sap is going to flow.

Because of the early sap runs, some farmers are starting to boil it down to its precious end, but those are sporadic in the state and region at this point. But as more sap flows more boilers are expected to fire up this week.

Last year’s maple crop was the second largest in U.S. history and producer are hoping this year crop could rival that.
