The Humane Society of the Waterville Area is set to re-open after having to close in July due to several outbreaks among the animals there from ringworm, upper GI issues, and kennel cough that experts felt were because of over crowding issues at the time.

They are still also on the hunt for a new executive director as things are getting back to normal faster than first anticipated according to a news report by centralmaine.com.

One of the board members for the shelter says they have been cleared for illness. They also just had a follow-up inspection which prompted the state to lift the quarantine that was in place.

They have kept the reopening fairly quiet which was intentional according to the report by centralmaine.com to allow for a "slow and gradual transition for the good of the staff and animals"

Currently the shelter has 118 cats and 25 dogs that are available for adoption. The shelter is encouraging anyone that is currently looking to adopt a dog or cat to go to their website and fill out an adoption application.
