As we finish digging out from Sunday’s storm, many people are already looking ahead to the mid-week storm that is expected to wreak havoc on much of New England.

Most meteorologists are saying that this storm, which will roll into New England on Tuesday and continue through Wednesday, will bring a mix of rain & snow, along with high winds.

For Central Maine, the National Weather Service is saying that we can the winter weather to start late on Tuesday.  There will be a mix of rain and snow, which could be heavy at times.  Some parts of Central Maine could see up to 8” of snow accumulation.  It will also be windy.  Currently, they are calling for gusts of up to 45 MPH.

On Wednesday, temperatures will warm up.  That will cause the snow to switch to rain.  It will continue to be windy throughout the day.  Central Maine could see gusts of up to 55 MPH.

Maine’s coast will see similar conditions, but with higher wind gusts.  The National Weather Service is saying that we could see 70 MPH gusts on the coast!

Aroostook County will see some snow on Tuesday, but will likely get hit with freezing rain on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service is calling for Boston to get lots of rain and high winds.  Currently, they are estimating that the city could see gusts of nearly 50 MPH.

In some places, though, there is a chance this next storm could be welcomed.  The storm could be great news for New Hampshire’s White Mountains.  The area, which is known for skiing, is expected to get spanked with over a foot of snow.  Of course, in addition to the piles of fresh powder, the storm will likely also gusty winds to the White Mountains.

Obviously, even though we have some great meteorologists in New England, they do occasionally make mistakes.  And as this storm is still a few days out, anything can happen.

Wherever you are, take the proper precautions.  Charge those devices, make sure there is enough fuel for the generator, and allow extra time to get where you need to go.
