New Year's resolutions, okay, who first thought of making these and how many of us keep them? According to a survey by the University of Scranton, 45 percent of Americans usually make New Year's resolutions. Losing weight is the most popular but few of us stick with it, only 8 percent are expected to have stuck with their intentions.

If you are going a gym in 2015, here are some tips for avoiding being a 'gym dropout'

1. Set Realistic Goals: Let's say you have a goal of losing 50 pounds. That can be overwhelming. Set goals within your overall goal. Set 10 pounds as your first goal on the way to getting to 50 pounds.

2. Make A Plan: It sounds obvious, but map out when working out fits into your schedule and most gyms have a trainer that can help you set up a program. Use the help, especially if you are a novice at the gym.

3. Lean On Others: I tend to prefer to go to the gym by myself. It really clears my mind and is a great stress reliever. However, once in a while, I enjoy lifting with a group of friends and making a social event of it. Join a workout class or go to the gym with a friend.

4. You Need To Want It: Just because it's the New Year. You will be more successful with losing weight and sticking with the gym if you really want it. I know for myself, until I had the mindset to do it, I wasn't going to have a chance to be successful.

5. Reward Yourself: Once you reach a goal, treat yourself! Buy some new workout clothes or maybe treat yourself to a day at the spa.

Good luck with your New Year's Resolutions!
