Even though the kids have been out for a few weeks, and the state's best summer attractions have been open since late May, for many people, the 4th of July holiday is the real kickoff to summer in Maine.

Of course this is going to be a very special Independence Day because this year, 2026, we celebrate the 250th birthday of our amazing nation!

While there will be 4th of July celebrations across our great state, one of the best will be in Augusta, Maine's capital city.

Details About the Augusta 4th of July Celebration

The day's events will get kicked off with the parade at 10 AM.  As it has for the last few years, the parade will start at the State House parking lot, around Memorial Circle, down Rines Hill through Water Street and across the Calumet Bridge to end at Old Fort Western.

Following the parade, the action will switch to Old Fort Western.  Mayor O’Brien will read the Declaration of Independence, followed by a musket salute from the staff at Old Fort Western. The Fort’s “Old Time 4th” celebration will also feature old-fashioned games, horse wagon rides, live music from the Downeast Brass Band from 1 to 2 p.m., a hot dog fundraiser, and special displays from Lithgow Public Library and local chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Starting at 1 PM, there will be family events at Mill Park.  These include bounce houses, games, bubbles, magic show, food trucks, and more!

Starting at about 5 PM, there will be live music from Duke Dog and The Shizzle.

And, at 9:05, there will be an amazing 4th of July fireworks display.  Best viewing for the fireworks will be at Mill Park.
