It's always so refreshing discovering new and exciting art found in your own community! That's exactly what happened to me last weekend when I took my family out for dinner at the trendy new restaurant, Obscura, in downtown Lewiston, Maine.

As we walked towards the restaurant on lower Lisbon Street, we peaked around the corner and noticed huge butterflies!

No, they were not flying, they were gigantic wings painted along a long white wall in what would have been an empty alley-way, but now was a fascinating, "selfie wall."

I have heard about these "selfie walls" and have seen photos of them in other cities and states, but I had no clue we had one right in Lewiston!

Of course, we immediately walked over and started taking photos. My son, Bentley loved it because he got to take the photos of me and was so impressed with how he did.

According to Sun Journal, Melanie Therrien, local artist, drew inspiration from the Mural Arts Philadelphia project. So she created a series of wings which was painted and will remain in place for seven to 10 years after being glued onto the wall. She hashtaged the event #wickedwingslewiston and is a part of the Wicked Illustrations Studio and Gallery on Facebook!

The collection includes butterfly, angel, and airplane wings painted by Melanie, fairy and dragonfly wings by Corrina Tancrede, and Luna moth wings by Courtney Schlachter. When you stand in front of the wings they appear to look like they are apart of you!

The creative work that is being done to our community is so refreshing.

This was a fun few moments that we all spent together, admiring something beautiful and interacting with the art.

If you want to check out this incredible selfie wall and take your own photos, head on down to lower Lisbon street and make sure to bring your camera!
