Maine Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating a Fatal Fire in Eastern Maine
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, the state fire marshal's office is investigating a fatal fire in the Washington County town of Meddybemps.
The press release explains that firefighters were called to a home on Main Street in Meddybemps just before six on Sunday evening.
The request came in at 5:58 as the State Fire Marshal’s Office was asked to respond to a fire at 624 Main Street.
The local fire chief told officials there was a strong chance the homeowner was still inside.
When firefighters got there, the house was already fully engulfed. The flames had reached a vehicle in the driveway as well. More than a half dozen departments showed up to help, all working through heavy snow.
A team of four investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office arrived a little before nine. They found the remains of an adult inside the home at just before 9 PM. The victim was removed and taken to a local funeral home, where the Office of Chief Medical Examiner will work to confirm the person’s identity and determine the cause of death.
Investigators are back on scene today as they continue looking into what caused the fire.
Our thoughts are with all those involved in the incident.
