The New Year brings a lot of new people to the gym and it never seems to amaze me at the lack of common sense some people have at the gym. I was at the gym yesterday and I saw two young men, around 20 years old, going from machine to machine and not really knowing what they we doing, not taking their weights off and not wiping down the machines. So, I thought an article on Gym Etiquette was needed.

Here are 11 tips that I have, feel free to add to the list!

1. If you are sick, stay home. The gym is a place where germs can be spread very easily.
2. Obey cardio time limits. With the gym being busy, obey any time limits.
3. Don't be a creeper. Be sociable, but don't leer at people working out.
4. Dress Appropriately. I've seen too short shorts, people with boots, etc.
5. Smell Good, Not Great. Wear deodorant but not overdue it with perfume and body sprays.
6. Keep Unsolicited Advice To Yourself. I actually like it if someone corrects me when I am doing something wrong at the gym, many others don't.
7. Don't Use The Water Fountain To Fill Up Your Huge Water Bottle.
8. Don't Train Right In Front Of The Weight Rack. People need to be able to reach the weights they need.
9. Don't Hog The Equipment. Do your sets, wipe it down and move on.
10. Unload Your Weights And Re-Rack Dumbbells.
11. Wipe Down The Equipment. Sanity reasons, see #1.
