According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, the authorities have released the identity of a woman killed in a March 2026 fire.

Officials say the Lincoln Fire Department was called to a home at 1115 Route 168 in Winn at around 1:28 AM on Thursday, March 19th, 2026.  When crews arrived, they found the house already heavily engulfed in flames.

Five people were able to escape before firefighters got there, but they told responders that an elderly woman was still inside and unaccounted for.  Because of that, the Office of the State Fire Marshal was called in to assist with the investigation.

Hours later, at approximately 9:30 that morning, investigators searching through the debris located the body of a woman inside the home.  She has since been identified as 82-year-old Jean Fogg.

Her body was taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where officials were able to determine the exact cause of death and confirm her identification.

The other occupants of the home were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to a local hospital in Lincoln.  Authorities say they have all since been released.

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire.  More information is expected to be released as the investigation continues.

Our thoughts are with the victim's family and friends.
