I have been doing my best to bring awareness this month about Chiari Malformation.  I've shared my story and I've also talked about Connor.  Connor is a 2 year-old boy from Vassalboro who also struggles with this debilitating condition.  What's worse, Connor also suffers from several other associated conditions, one being Basil Invagination.  Connor needs surgery NOW!

Unfortunately, insurance will NOT cover Connor's brain surgery.  This isn't an elective surgery, this is a surgery that will greatly improve Connor's quality of life and even save his life.  Erika, Connor's mom, received word yesterday that before a date for surgery can be given, they will need to give a deposit of $100,000 (one hundred thousand dollars).  Connor is not my child, but if that brings me to tears...I can't imagine the fear & pain Connor's parents are feeling at this moment.

I know Connor.  I'm probably one of the only people close to him that can relate with how he feels...to even a simple degree.  Connor's condition is far worse than mine.  But, I do know that with chiari malformation, there is daily excruciating pain.  That pain intensifies by 10 when you laugh, cough, sneeze and that's just the tip of the massive iceberg.    As a 36-year-old woman, I understand, I have a knowledge of where my pain is coming from.  Connor doesn't.  Connor has to confront his pain head on every day and not know why.

He's wise for a kid.  He has learned to relieve the pressure on his head.  I've even followed some of his suggestions.  But, Connor can't live like this.  Connor needs to be fixed.  But how, as a community to we get $100,000 for this sweet precious boy?

Laura Benedict and Red Barn Cares Foundation are trying their hardest to start somewhere for Connor.  On Monday, September 28th, there will be a #ConnorStrong Fundraiser FIRST EVER Spaghetti Dinner at the Red Barn!!  Please mark your calendar!  We can't look at $100,000 as a goal we can't obtain.  We CAN and we WILL!!
