Maine Children's Museum Sets Opening Day For Amazing New Location

For decades, Maine families have been making a road trip to Portland to enjoy the Children's Museum of Maine.

According to Wikipedia, the museum first opened in a very small space at Fort Williams Park in 1976. In 1980, it moved to Stevens Avenue in Portland. And, in 1991, the museum expanded again, moving into the old Chamber of Commerce building on Free Street. A few years ago, it was announced the museum would be moving, and expanding, again.

Now, the museum (and theater) are getting ready to open their massive new location at Thompson's Point.

According to WMTW, the beautiful new 30,000 square feet facility includes the state-of-the-art Maddy’s Theatre, an entire floor dedicated to the arts & culture, and a STEM science center.

The new museum will open on June 24th.

Not surprisingly, when it initially opens, there will be health and safety protocols in place. These will include a 40% capacity limit, timed ticketing, and mask-wearing for those who are five years old and older.
