Maine Fire Marshal’s Office Executes Search Warrant in Connection With Newcastle Incident
Earlier this week, we learned that the Maine Fire Marshal's Office was investigating the discovery of what was believed to be an explosive device.
The suspected explosive device was discovered during an early Monday morning traffic stop in Newcastle, Maine.
We now have an update in the story.
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, members of the Maine State Police Tactical Team and the Maine State Fire Marshal's Office executed a search warrant on property at 158 Wiscasset Road in Pittston.
The press release explains:
At approximately 11:40 am today, the Maine State Police Tactical Team responded to the scene to assist the Fire Marshal’s Office in executing the search warrant, given the high-risk nature of the situation. As a result, 43-year-old Nicholas Presby, of Augusta, was arrested without incident. Presby, who was an occupant in the vehicle stopped Monday by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, was present at the Pittson residence but does not live there. He is currently in the custody of the Fire Marshal’s Office and will be charged with one count of Criminal Use of Explosives (Class C). A significant law enforcement presence remains in the Pittston/Randolph area as the investigation continues.
As of 2 PM on Wednesday, a significant law enforcement presence was still in the area and Route 27 (AKA Dresden Road) remains closed.
The Fire Marshal’s Office has requested the assistance of the Maine State Police Bomb Team in executing the search warrant of the residence. Out of an abundance of caution, the Pittston-Randolph Consolidated School was requested to go into lockdown during the execution of the warrant. That lockdown has since been lifted.
