Believe it or not, game shows have been around since before TV.

Back in the 1930s and 1940s, there were a ton of radio game shows. Just like they are in the 2020s, these were often done in front of a live studio audience. In some cases, they were standalone shows, in other cases, they were done as a segment on a bigger show.

In recent decades, we have seen an explosion in the variety of game shows. Survivor, Road Rules, American Idol, Chopped, The X Factor, Big Brother, The Worst Cooks in America, and The Voice are just a few of the non-trivia game shows that have popped up in the last 25 years.

GamblingSites.com recently did a study to determine the most popular game show in each state.

The gambling-focused website chose The Challenge as the most popular game show in Maine.

You've never heard of The Challenge? At first, we didn't think we had. Then, we did a little research and realized that many of us had actually seen the show.

The Challenge is better known as Squid Game: The Challenge. Basically, it is the real life game show based on the popular Korean Netflix show The Squid Game.

After the crazy success of The Squid Game, it only made sense that they would do a real life version. Over 80,000 people auditioned to be a part of the show. The first season aired in the fall and winter of 2023. There is no word on if we will see a second season of the show, which got mixed reviews from critics and viewers.
