Dear Lexie,

It's been a year since I got out of work, delivered box after box of Christmas treats to co-workers, friends, and family.

I was dog tired that day but knew I needed to stock up on household necessities, you know, honey buns, ice cream, and other yummy snacks for the kids and, of course, Redbull for the adults. I didn't want to make that extra stop that long-drawn-out day, but I did, and I'm so glad I decided to... it led me to a situation I'll NEVER forget.

After grabbing only a shopping basket, because I was only in there for a few items (famous last words), I found myself in a long line with my basket overflowing and my arms full, too.

The store was buzzing with the last-minute Christmas shoppers and moms, like me, just trying to keep their kids alive and fed during the craziest year of our lives.

As the line got shorter, and I inched my way to the counter, my turn arrived, and I never expected what would come next.

You rang up my purchases and then asked me, "How will you be paying?" I replied with "My debit card!"

Just as I went to insert my card into the chip reader, you stopped me and told me not to. At first, I was confused.  I thought maybe the chip reader was faulty or broken. Then, you came around the checkout counter. I proceeded to ask you if something was wrong because I had the cash on me that I could use instead of my card. Nothing was broken, not even in the slightest.

Instead, you kindly said, "I'm paying for your order."

My response was, "Ummm, what? Why?".

You swiped your personal debit card and smiled while saying, "It's almost Christmas, and I want to spread some kindness; I'm in a place where I able to this year, so I'm going to pay for your order." I tried to deny you the opportunity multiple times, but you INSISTED.

I don't know why you picked me out of everyone in line that day, but it didn't go unnoticed. I know you know that because we've talked about my thankfulness many times over the past year.

SO again thank you, Lexie, for spreading holiday cheer that lasted so much longer than I'm sure you even understood; the world needs more people like you!

Sincerely, Kristi Marie, the girl who still remembers what you did a year ago. Never change and continue being your sweet adorable self.
